Mark Eppli to Join UW Real Estate Faculty

Dear Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni and Friends,

We are delighted to announce that Mark Eppli (PhD ‘91, MS ‘84, and BBA ‘83), an experienced and highly regarded professor and administrator at Marquette University, will join the teaching and leadership team at the James A. Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business in August 2018.  In his new position, Eppli will expand the Center’s role in applied commercial real estate research and its dissemination to industry groups, government organizations, academia, and among our students. His appointment supports the Center’s strategy to remain a global leader in real estate education by attracting industry leaders with a commitment to excellence.

"I could not be more pleased to have Mark Eppli join our leadership team. Not only is he a passionate Badger Real Estate alumnus, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the field of real estate, and strong connections with industry, that will complement those of our faculty and staff," said Andra Ghent, Academic Director of the Graaskamp Center for Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business. "He’s returning to his roots and we know he will be an important contributor in the Center's move to the next level.”

Eppli served as Interim James H. Keyes Dean of Business Administration from 2012 to 2015 and is currently a professor of finance and Bell Chair in Real Estate at Marquette University.  He has been instrumental in building the Center for Real Estate and real estate program at Marquette that has enhanced the reputation of the business school not just regionally but also nationally.  Widely published in commercial real estate finance, development and valuation, his research has been published in dozens of top-respected real estate journals.  Eppli is co-author of two books: Real Estate Development: Principles and Process and Valuing the New Urbanism, both published by the Urban Land Institute.
Eppli is an independent board member for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago since 2012, and he is immediate past president of the nonprofit Real Estate Research Institute.  He was named a "Distinguished Fellow" by NAIOP, a national commercial real estate organization, which recognizes him as a foremost real estate policy expert.  He has also received awards from the Greater Washington Urban League and the Urban Land Institute for his efforts to attract minorities to the real estate profession.  Eppli earned his Ph.D., master's and bachelor's degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Eppli says he is looking forward to his new position at the Graaskamp Center, "I am thrilled to return home to my alma mater and the real estate program that provided me with the education that launched my professional and academic career in real estate.  This appointment is deeply meaningful to me as a first generation college student returning to my alma mater to teach, research, and serve at one the leading educational programs in our profession.”

The Graaskamp Center, Wisconsin Real Estate Alumni Association, the Wisconsin REALTORS Association, and the Wisconsin School of Business were pleased to work together to make this hire possible. Each day, we work to improve the quality of our education, outreach, and research, so we can maintain our leadership for years to come.

On Wisconsin!
